Apprenticeship Curriculum
Our apprenticeship program is designed to teach you more than just how to cut hair. We want to prepare you for a successful career in barbering, from your technical skills behind the chair to understanding how to build a clientele and make a living in the industry.
500 Hour Program
Our curriculum includes:
- Professional etiquette
- Daily habits and routines
- Sanitation and safety
- Technical barbering skills
- Blood exposure procedures
- Marketing and client building
- Barbershop business basics
- Accounting and financial preparation
- Hands on shadowing
- Working the floor
- Practical test preparation
Tuition
$4,000
The State of Utah requires 130 apprenticeship hours before you are eligible to take your practical exam and receive your barber permit. At Boneyard, our apprenticeship program is 500 hours.
We intentionally go beyond the state minimum because we believe 130 hours alone is not enough time to properly prepare someone for a successful career behind the chair. Our goal is not just to help you get a license. We want you to leave the program confident in your skills, comfortable working with real clients, and prepared to build a career in barbering.
Getting Behind the Chair
Once you have completed the required training and are ready to begin taking clients on the floor, earnings are split 50/50 between you and the shop.
You keep 100% of your tips.
If your goal is to stay with Boneyard after completing the apprenticeship, there may be an opportunity to join our team based on performance, availability, and fit.
Barbers who are hired after completing the program start at 35% commission to the shop, while keeping 100% of their tips. From there, the goal is to build your clientele and eventually transition into booth rent when you're ready.
